Sims Professional Engineers (SPE) provides design, analysis and testing services for customers in the rail industry.  As SPE is very community minded and loves public art, we were excited to learn about the opportunity to be a part of “Owl You Need is Love”.  President and CEO Roger Sims said, “Owl You Need Is Love not only fills those interests but our earlier experience with the Highland Ducks project taught us that we could do team building at the same time as expressing our companies mission in the railroad consulting business by decorating our owl in the spirit of a railroad conductor or engineer.”  Several members of our team got to work creating the design and “Owl Aboard” was born!  We were fortunate to work with the very talented Highland artist Jessica Haug who helped us take our concept to reality – which is exactly our tagline:  From concept to reality, we’re your partner for Industry Solutions!  When Jessica wasn’t busy painting our owl and ‘granite’ base, our team worked hard on each part of the owl:  oversized train conductor hat, wire-rimmed glasses, furry eyebrows and moustache, gloved hands holding a working lantern, bib overalls, and even boots!

Many owls are known to be strictly nocturnal, which may be said about “Owl Aboard”.   Check him out during the evening hours to see his working railroad crossing lights!  Lots of hard analysis and testing went it to this component but the effort was very rewarding the first time the lights were turned on!   Cheers to Humane Indiana and thanks for this opportunity.

“Owl Aboard” and other owls like it will be on display at various locations across the northwest Indiana area until October 16th.  Come check it out if you’re in the area!

Humane Indiana will be featuring the owls on their Facebook page:   https://www.facebook.com/events/324329701634787/ .
